EMPOWERMENT - To make autonomous

For Benter Teenage Mothers’ CBO, empowering teenage mothers means addressing and combating various social issues, including poverty, prostitution, HIV, early marriages, depression and other mental health challenges, gender-based violence, and harmful gender stereotypes. Our goal is to build a healthier community by unlocking the potential of teenage mothers. We believe that, despite the challenges posed by early pregnancy, these young women possess talents and abilities that, if supported, can positively contribute to society. Whether they have a passion for singing, dancing, painting, weaving, or any other talent, we encourage them to develop and nurture these skills.

At Benter Teenage Mothers’ CBO, we recognize that women are the pillars of communities, particularly in Kenya, where they play a crucial role in supporting families. We are committed to helping teenage mothers become strong and resilient, ensuring they do not lose their rightful place in society. We understand that teenage mothers, like all young people, had dreams before their pregnancies and continue to have aspirations even after giving birth. While they may face limitations, their desire to be good mothers and contribute meaningfully to society remains.

Our rationale is based on the belief that a community that allows a teenage father to continue his education while stigmatizing the teenage mother exacerbates gender inequality. Empowering teenage mothers, for us, is a means of reducing this gender gap and elevating the status of women in society.
